I believe that there are many pathways towards healing. My therapeutic technique focuses on fostering joy through practicing connectedness, humor, and compassion. I believe that action, including creative expression through movement, art, writing, and storytelling, all facilitate the healing process and can help us to release old patterns and embrace new ways of being. I believe that therapy, while sometimes difficult, should ultimately help you to feel good, and that the process doesn’t have to be inherently painful.
I developed this approach after 13 years of working with children and families in community mental health. The common conception of talk therapy is that you identify a trauma and talk about it until it is “extracted” from your system. However, my experience is that children and teens (and even adults!) light up when you tap into their joy and provide them a space to be their authentic selves. Connection with others- either the therapist individually, or with peers in a group setting- is a critical part of having one's authentic self reflected back to them and accepted, and this is the path toward healing.
I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and welcome individuals of all genders and backgrounds.
Individual therapy- I help individuals pre-teen through emerging adult navigate the many transitions that life offers in these phases. Together, we explore challenges, whether it is adjusting to a new school, navigating the complexities of a social life, or simply trying to answer the eternal question: who am I?
Family therapy- All individuals exist in the context of their kin- especially children and teens. Trust, respect, and reciprocal communication is key to building strong relationships within families. Family therapy is a way to find solutions to challenges collaboratively, and shift from cycles of disconnection toward connection.
Why go it alone when you can have a friend at your side? Developmentally, teens and young adults are deeply rooted in friendship and peer relationships. Perhaps they desire increased meaningful connections with peers, or want a place where they can be fully themselves without judgement or criticism. Each group will have an activity and theme based in creative art expression that incorporates elements of psychodrama, movement, drawing, writing, and most importantly, play. In a group setting, healing occurs by being present for others, as well as through active participation, and because of this, can be a powerful modality.
